I got a tip from Musescore member dandv to check out the website www.ceder.net/piano as a good source of original ragtime scores. I did so, and on the first page I found an interesting title labelled as a "Novelty Two Step" and was from ragtime hotspot Kansas City. Couldn't pass that one by and it turned out to be a great bit o' composing but was disappointingly short in length. It was like the concluding section, the C strain, had been sawed down from 32 bars to a forced 24 bars, as if to save paper or something. So I did something I don't normally do here and created my own, somewhat longer version of this score just by re-arranging a few things. So that's what this is. Thank you to dandv for the tip.

This score is undated but is assumed to date from the time of Daisy Allen's other published piece with the same Jones Publishing Co. from 1907 titled "Grand March to Jones'", referring to a big seven-story department store in downtown Kansas City. I am guessing that Daisy Allen worked for Jones and was able to get a couple scores published through them.

As to how this score differs from the published original (see link for the original), I've left the A strain as is, added repeat bars for the B strain including an invented transition at measure 44, and changed the C strain from 24 measures to 32 by adding repeat bars after the sixteenth bar of the strain, deleting the hasty ending in the process. I have a transcription of the original score as it was written if anyone is interested.

Score #75 in my current ongoing series "Women Ragtime Composers". Lots more of these yet to come.
