WHEN she was 15, her father, William Kerlin, died leaving her only a nightingale voice. She had stage ambitions and went to a Chicago publishing house to look for songs. There she met Paul Dresser, once a close friend of her lather. Paul got her a booking and she was billed as his kid sister, taking his name. An interesting stage career was followed by a more interesting picture career. Today she is one of the most popular stars on the screen. Born in Evansville, Indiana, she became Mrs. Jack Gardner in 1908.
