Overwriting photos by other users, especially FPs[edit]
Dear Ahecht,
thank you very much for your contributions to Wikimedia Commons. I see that you like to improve photographs, which is indeed a useful skil. However it can be problematic when you replace photos taken or restored by other people by your version; see COM:OVERWRITE for details.
First, please do not overwrite photos which have special assessments like Featured Pictures (or even Quality images); these assessments are valid only for exactly the version which has been nominated, reviewed and promoted. Therefore if you want to edit such an image, please just upload your edited version under a new name and with a link (best using the template {{Derived from}}) to the original file. This applies e.g. to your revisions of some restorations by Adam Cuerden:
I had to revert these files to the last version by Adam Cuerden. Please upload your edited versions under new filenames, if you want.
Second, also in general many users here consider it as more polite and prudent not to overwrite any photos by experienced photographers or restorators, but to upload any substantially edited versions under new filenames. (The sole exception is the correction of small local flaws, e.g. the removal of a dust spot or of CAs.) This criterion applies to Adam Cuerden’s restorations, too.
