File Doesn't Exist[edit]

Thank you for upload svg file. But in this edit w:zh:Special:Diff/79627367 in Chinese wikipedia, the file "File:Spherical_disdyakis_dodecahedron.svg" File Doesn't Exist (See here :w:zh:六角柱&oldid=79627367#大斜方截半變異對稱性 above the text "V4.6.8"), I have changed the svg file back to png file. You have added a file that does not exist, please pay more attention to this, thank you. good luck.-- Nanachi🐰Fruit Tea(宇帆·☎️·☘️23:52, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@A2569875: Thanks for catching that, and for fixing my mistake 🙂 I do try to be careful (which is why I upload these images in sets, which makes it easier to keep track of things) but I will be extra vigilant. ReneeWrites (talk) 00:01, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About the problem you mentioned[edit]

Don't worry about reporting the problem, I'll open a ticket on Phabricator. What I need from you is to exactly explain to me every step of the process: for example, does the problem occurs at the "release rights" step, or the "describe" step? Does it apply only when you upload more than one file, with different copyright tags, or is it something else? Let me know. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 18:15, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sannita (WMF): I figured out where the option I was looking for was. It's not gone, it's just hidden in a drop-down menu, I first had to select the option in the wizard that I was uploading someone else's work to get there. Sorry for the false alarm ^^; ReneeWrites (talk) 00:20, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all! Glad you sorted it all out, but anyway, please remember that we're here to help. :) Cheers, Sannita (WMF) (talk) 10:44, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:GlobalReplace[edit]

Hi there, I suggest you use Commons:GlobalReplace to globally replace all files. Thanks. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 23:42, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Will do! ReneeWrites (talk) 00:20, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I got a question[edit]

I saw your latest Flag maps (Like the Flag map of Oryol Oblast), and in not even one day you replaced all the pages that used the PNG version of the Flag map in your (SVG) Version, How is this possible? I need it for my Flag map of Martinique (I am trying to replace the old flag), Let me know. OttavianoUrsu (talk) 19:45, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(I ended up writing basically a step-by-step guide, so this ended up being a lot longer than I thought, sorry.)
Hi @OttavianoUrsu: Flag maps (and most other files that see a lot of use across various Wikiprojects) are almost always used as a key image in a template, and if you change the image in the template, it'll automatically change the image on every page it's used on. So usually what I do is look on the global usage page of a particular file and Ctrl+F for template pages (also Wikidata pages, as many Wikiprojects have bots that automatically update articles based on what's on Wikidata).
The old image you're looking to replace, File:Flag-map of Martinique.svg provides a good example for two common places where that happens. The first is the stub template of the Ukrainian Wikipedia (Шаблон:Martinique-geo-stub) (not used on any other pages currently, but if it was, changing the image there would instantly change it on every page the stub template was placed).
The other is about 600 talk pages on the French Wikipedia. Taking one as an example, can see the icon being used here: Discussion:Raphaël Élizé - it's very small; the third one from the top. Looking at the page's code you can see the template it's used in - Modèle:Wikiprojet. The final step is finding out where the image gets called, which is fortunately made easy for us because the documentation links the most important sub-pages at the bottom, including this one: Modèle:Wikiprojet/image. If you click on the source code you'll find (after a bit of scrolling) this: | Martinique = Flag-map of Martinique.svg
That page is protected, so you'll have to make an edit request on the talk page: Discussion modèle:Wikiprojet. But after that's been done the image will be replaced on all those 600 talk pages. ReneeWrites (talk) 20:26, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
... and in case of Flag map of Oryol Oblast, this stub template was responsible for the vast majority of the old image's use: Кеп:Orlov-obl-geo-stub.
I also have access to the Global Replace widget, but that's only useful for images that are used a lot on pages directly, not ones embedded via templates or controlled via Wikidata. ReneeWrites (talk) 20:38, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for explaining everything in great detail! OttavianoUrsu (talk) 14:26, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, glad I could help ^^ ReneeWrites (talk) 16:02, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, we need to talk.[edit]

I have some photos of Japanese municipality flags. I want your help to vectorize those photos. I hope you hear me out. Thank you. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 14:49, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@OperationSakura6144: Yes I would love to help with that 🙂 (Also, welcome to Wikimedia Commons!)
If you took those photos yourself, you should be able to upload them to Commons directly, and I (or someone else) will be able to vectorize them. If these photos aren't yours then you can upload them to a different image host (like Imgur) and link the album here on my talk page. ReneeWrites (talk) 23:32, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for replying, ReneeWrites! Here is the link for you to work: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tNBzJ1EFizsyHUrgGtXq3oLU3UYw9-PL/view?usp=drive_link
What you're gonna do is to replace these images below with your vectorized versions of my Japanese municipality flags stored in a zip file given by the above link:
File:Flag of Funehiki Fukushima.png[1]
File:Flag of Goshiki Hyogo.JPG[2]
File:Flag of Hakata Ehime.gif[3]
File:Flag of Haramachi Fukushima.png[4]
File:Flag of Ichinomiya Kumamoto.png[5]
File:Flag of Kamikatsu Tokushima.JPG[6]
File:Flag of Kamikawachi Tochigi.JPG[7]
File:Flag of Former Miki Hyogo.png[8]
File:Flag of Hihara Shimane.png[9]
File:Flag of Former Saiki Oita.png[10]
Also, to say more, I could've done this myself, but I can't, because I've been blocked by User:MaterialScientist because he misunderstood me as a proxy user. That's why I'm leaving this to you to have it finished.
Also, don't forget to vectorize File:Flag of Former Kobayashi Miyazaki.JPG[11] and File:Flag of Kakeya Shimane.png[12], that would be a bonus for us.
To end the message, thank you for replying on my topic. Don't forget to keep me notified. See you next time. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 02:38, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@OperationSakura6144: I can't open the Google Drive link, it says access denied. I can get to work on the images that already are on Commons however. It's getting quite late where I am (Amsterdam timezone), but I'll be able to get started tomorrow! ReneeWrites (talk) 21:33, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here you go! I've fixed it, Google just wanted me to verify my identity. Now, you can open the GD link. I'm happy to see you starting your work on that tomorrow. You can thank me after it's done. SE you next time. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 01:58, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It still won't let me open the link. Could you upload the images to Imgur? I think that would be more convenient for both of us.
Also, I would basically be continuing to do the work I was already doing since over a year ago. I am not going to thank you for telling me what to do. ReneeWrites (talk) 10:55, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I agree what you say. But tell me the status. How much flags did you vectorize now? I'm yearning to have our work finished. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 06:50, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ReneeWrites, could you please remove the watermarks from this photo?

Byejai (talk) 16:51, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Byejai: Yeah, I can take a crack at that. ReneeWrites (talk) 17:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not any time soon. We're nowhere near done vectorizing all the other flags of that project, which take higher priority. Where do you plan on using it? ReneeWrites (talk) 10:24, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please help me![edit]

Hey, it's OperationSakura6144 here. I wanted to ask something. I have uploaded vector images representing flags of Japanese municipalities. As some Wikipedia pages still used old images, I've tried to replace them with the vectorized ones, both manually and using GlobalReplace tool. Even though I used GlobalReplace tool, some images didn't get replaced too quickly. Here are those images:

File:Flag of Enzan Yamamashi.gif, File:Flag of Himeshima Oita.JPG, File:Flag of Iwai Ibaraki.png, File:Flag of Kuroiso Tochigi.JPG, File:Flag of Miharu Fukushima.JPG, File:Flag of Nakoso, Fukushima.png, File:Flag of Nichinan Tottori.JPG, File:Flag of Niitsu Niigata.png, File:Flag of Former Nikko Tochigi.JPG, File:Flag of Nishimera Miyazaki.JPG, File:Flag of Shinjo Okayama.JPG, File:Flag of Tenryu Shizuoka.JPG, File:Flag of Tochio, Niigata (1959–2006).jpg, File:Flag of Tsuno Miyazaki.JPG, File:Flag of Yamagata Nagano.JPG, File:Flag of Koumi Nagano.JPG, File:Flag of Yoshiokawa Gunma.JPG

What I would like you to do is replace the first image with the second vector image:

File:Flag of Enzan Yamamashi.gifFile:Flag of Enzan,Yamanashi (1954–2005).svg

File:Flag of Himeshima Oita.JPGFile:Flag of Himeshima, Oita.svg

File:Flag of Iwai Ibaraki.pngFile:Flag of Iwai, Ibaraki (1971–2005).svg

File:Flag of Kuroiso Tochigi.JPGFile:Flag of Kuroiso, Tochigi (1958–2005).svg

File:Flag of Miharu Fukushima.JPGFile:Flag of Miharu, Fukushima.svg

File:Flag of Nakoso, Fukushima.pngFile:Flag of Nakoso, Fukushima (1955–1966).svg

File:Flag of Nichinan Tottori.JPGFile:Flag of Nichinan, Tottori.svg

File:Flag of Niitsu Niigata.pngFile:Flag of Niitsu, Niigata (1951–2005).svg

File:Flag of Former Nikko Tochigi.JPGFile:Flag of Nikko, Tochigi (1893–2006).svg

File:Flag of Nishimera Miyazaki.JPGFile:Flag of Nishimera. Miyazaki.svg

File:Flag of Shinjo Okayama.JPGFile:Flag of Shinjō, Okayama.svg

File:Flag of Tenryu Shizuoka.JPGFile:Flag of Tenryu, Shizuoka (1959–2005).svg

File:Flag of Tochio, Niigata (1959–2006).jpgFile:Flag of Tochio, Niigata (1955–2006).svg

File:Flag of Tsuno Miyazaki.JPGFile:Flag of Tsuno, Miyazaki.svg

File:Flag of Yamagata Nagano.JPGFile:Flag of Yamagata, Nagano.svg

File:Flag of Koumi Nagano.JPGFile:Flag of Koumi, Nagano.svg

File:Flag of Yoshiokawa Gunma.JPGFile:Flag of Yoshioka, Gunma.svg

I made a similar request to User:SpinnerLaserzthe2nd and in the village pump, but that didn't help me. That's why I'm leaving this to you. So, don't forget to reply. And, to finish, thank you for appreciating my vectorization work on flags of Japanese municipalities. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 23:39, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @OperationSakura6144: I'll be quite busy today, so I'll look at this tomorrow (if someone else hasn't already worked on it by then). I see that you've already done quite a bit of work replacing the files yourself as well as removing/applying the right templates to the original files, which I really appreciate 🙂 ReneeWrites (talk) 11:17, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply! I only wanted this. I hope you get the work done for me. I really appreciate it. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 14:05, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@OperationSakura6144: Done! All the flags have been replaced.
One last thing, I noticed that the emblem of Tsuno, Miyazaki was incorrect, which was transferred over to its flag as well. The town emblem looks like this, which also looks like the flag that was uploaded originally here. Is it alright by you if I upload a new version for it, or would you prefer to do this yourself? ReneeWrites (talk) 10:38, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It would be alright if you upload a new version for File:Flag of Tsuno, Miyazaki.svg. I have no problem about it. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 11:10, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A small help.[edit]

Hey, ReneeWrites. I've uploaded two flags: File:Flag of Kitaaiki, Nagano.svg and File:Flag of Hokuto, Yamanashi (Variant version).svg. I have replaced their old versions with the new ones I've uploaded. What I would like you to do is to replace the old versions File:Flag of Kiaiki Nagano.JPG and File:Flag of Hokuto Yamanashi other version.gif with the new ones on these pages:

File:Flag of Kiaiki Nagano.JPG → File:Flag of Kitaaiki, Nagano.svg:

Kitaaiki

List of municipal flags of Chūbu region

Kitaaiki

کیتاآیکی، ناگانو

File:Flag of Hokuto Yamanashi other version.gif → File:Flag of Hokuto, Yamanashi (Variant version).svg:

List of municipal flags of Chūbu region

And, to end this topic, I'm gonna take a break from WikiComms for a while. After that, I will start continuing my contributions on WikiComms. OperationSakura6144 (talk) 03:05, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@OperationSakura6144: ✓ Done! The flags have been replaced.
Have fun on your break, and I'll see you around 🙂 ReneeWrites (talk) 07:07, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
